Faculty & Staff Bring the QEP into FOCUS

Yesterday, during our February campus-wide meeting of staff and faculty, the QEP Committee presented the Quality Enhancement Plan for SCO. It was a lively presentation by nearly all the members of the committee, and there were several good questions and comments at the end. You can hear the presentation for yourself here.

The focus program will be an exciting opportunity for everyone on the staff and faculty to serve our community while advancing the education of our primary stakeholders, the students!

And students, you will get your turn to hear about focus, too! Stay tuned.

The QEP Campus-Wide meeting is set for February 8!

Do you have only a vague recollection of what QEP stands for?

Are you curious about what has happened with SCO’s Quality Enhancement Plan?

Would you like to know what the committee has done with all the work you did in the campus-wide meeting 2 and a half years ago?

The answers to these questions and more will blow you away at the February 8 campus-wide meeting in the Tower second floor classrooms at 8:30 AM. At that meeting, you will get the information you need to answer questions the SACS people might ask you when they visit in March. You will hear about exciting opportunities to contribute to the success of the Plan and SCO’s service to the community in meaningful and fulfilling ways.

So mark your calendars for this exciting campus-wide meeting. It promises to be a fun and informative time for everyone!

About the SCO Quality Enhancement Plan

Every educational institution in the Southeastern United States can be accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools. Every institution of higher education, including SCO, is subject to accreditation by the SACS Commission on Colleges. One of the more innovative aspects of SACS CoC accreditation is the requirement to develop a Quality Enhancement Plan. This must be an assessment-driven initiative by the institution to improve student learning.

SCO’s faculty and staff have chosen service-learning as the focus of our QEP. SCO students have a long history of outstanding service to the college, the community, and people throughout the Western hemisphere. However, the college has never undertaken an effort to assess the development of our students as health-care professionals through these activities. Thus, our QEP was born!

The name of SCO’s Quality Enhancement Plan is focus | facilitating optometric curriculum using service.

The mission of the QEP is to enhance student learning through service.

We are excited about the opportunity for everyone on campus — students, staff, faculty, administration, and even our Board of Trustees — to serve our community through service that enhances the development of our students as ethical, effective health-care professionals!
