Every educational institution in the Southeastern United States can be accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools. Every institution of higher education, including SCO, is subject to accreditation by the SACS Commission on Colleges. One of the more innovative aspects of SACS CoC accreditation is the requirement to develop a Quality Enhancement Plan. This must be an assessment-driven initiative by the institution to improve student learning.
SCO’s faculty and staff have chosen service-learning as the focus of our QEP. SCO students have a long history of outstanding service to the college, the community, and people throughout the Western hemisphere. However, the college has never undertaken an effort to assess the development of our students as health-care professionals through these activities. Thus, our QEP was born!
The name of SCO’s Quality Enhancement Plan is focus | facilitating optometric curriculum using service.
The mission of the QEP is to enhance student learning through service.
We are excited about the opportunity for everyone on campus — students, staff, faculty, administration, and even our Board of Trustees — to serve our community through service that enhances the development of our students as ethical, effective health-care professionals!
